In 7th grade English, students will be engaged in reading and writing activities throughout the year. Through the use of the SpringBoard curriculum, the students will write a personal narrative, an original myth, an expository essay, a persuasive essay, and a literary analysis essay. Along with these major writing projects, there will also be shorter writing practice almost daily. The writing will take place in combination with the reading of fictional text and informational text. The reading of the novel Tangerine by Edward Bloor is one of the highlights of the school year. The learning of research skills, along with speaking and listening skills, will also take place. We will be very busy!!! I will try to make it as painless as possible.
My name is Lilly DePalma and this is currently my 13th year as a teacher. I was born in Puerto Rico and my family moved to the United States when I was in the first grade. I grew up in New Jersey and I'm a true "Jersey Girl". I attended The College of New Jersey where I graduated with a bachelor's degree in psychology and a master's degree in counseling. I moved to Arizona with my husband and our two boys in 1996 and have never regretted our decision-I'll take the heat over the cold any day. I worked in the counseling field for a few years and continue to hold my credentials as a nationally certified counselor. Being bilingual was something that came in handy in this field and I learned so much through my work with children and families. I later decided to return to school and I received my teaching certification from ASU. I have spent my entire teaching career with Gilbert Public Schools teaching solely 7th grade English, so I have LOTS of experience with this age group! My husband and I live in Gilbert and our two sons attended Gilbert Public Schools and both graduated from ASU. I love living in this community and being able to work closely with all of the students in the classroom!
